In a quiet countryside, there lived a wise old farmer known for his knowledge and fairness. He owned a large piece of land where he cultivated various crops. His wisdom was not only limited to farming; he was also sought after for advice on matters of dispute among the villagers. One day, two neighbors came to the farmer with a problem. They both claimed ownership of a calf that had wandered onto their properties. The farmer listened carefully to their arguments but couldn’t determine the true owner based solely on their words.

To resolve the issue, the farmer proposed a test. He placed the calf in the center of a field and told the two neighbors to stand on opposite sides. He then instructed each to call the calf. The farmer explained that the calf would go to its true owner. However, the calf seemed confused and didn’t move towards either of them. Seeing this, the farmer had an idea. He asked the neighbors to bring something that the calf would recognize from each of their homes. One brought a piece of cloth that the calf had been sleeping on, and the other brought a bowl from which the calf had been fed.

The calf immediately went towards the bowl and began licking it. The farmer declared the neighbor who brought the bowl as the rightful owner, as the calf’s reaction indicated familiarity and recognition. The other neighbor accepted the decision gracefully, acknowledging the fairness and wisdom of the farmer’s judgment.
